Nicosia (Lefkoşa), Cyprus
Nicosia is the Capital city of borth North and South Cyprus, know as the last devided city of the world. Nicosia dates back 2,200 (approximately) years to the settlement of Ledra. During the Byzantine period on the island the name was changed back to Lefkon, which comes from poplar grove.

Nicosia has many historical places to visit. These include Bedesten, Arab Ahmet Mosque, The Selimiye Mosque, The Dervis Pasa Mansion, Buyuk Hamam (The Grand Bath), Venetian Column Ataturk Square, The Gambler's Inn, The Great Inn and more. A half day trip is enough to explore North Nicosia.
Todays Nicosia offers a lots of shops and an old bazaar. There are also many restaurants. Nicosia also has one of the largest University (Near East University) on the island. |
